Welcome
Our world faces enormously complex environmental challenges. But the window to solve them is still open.
Students in the USC Dornsife Environmental Studies Program train to become creative and effective environmental leaders: researchers, policymakers, consultants, educators, and more. You’ll explore new scientific innovations, learn how to change the ways we communicate environmental and sustainability challenges, and discover approaches to transform scientific knowledge into political and social action that can shape the future of people and planet.
As part of the Wrigley Institute for Environmental Studies, the Environmental Studies program connects students with some of the most meaningful (and awe-inspiring) field experiences you could imagine — many based at the Wrigley Marine Science Center on Catalina Island. Earn your scientific diving certification. Meet with community leaders to discuss the fundamentals of island ecology. Analyze the sustainability implications of island food systems. At USC Dornsife, you don’t have to wait until you graduate to work on the issues that matter to you the most!

Directed Environmental Policy and Science Internships
The Environmental Internship Program helps students get placed in internships with local environmental organizations. The internships provide students with valuable professional experience in environmental work and can help prepare students for careers or graduate school in various environmental fields.

The Environmental Studies Program acknowledges our presence on the ancestral and unceded territory of the Tongva/Gabrielino/Kizh people and their neighbors, the Chumash, Tataviam, Kitanemuk, Serrano, Cahuilla, Payomkawichum, Acjachemen, Ipai-Tipai, Kumeyaay, and Quechan peoples. Indigenous stewardship and rightful claims to these lands have never been voluntarily relinquished nor legally extinguished. We pay our respect to the members and elders of these communities – past, present, and future – who remain stewards and advocates of this region.
